We would all like to dream about having a spare room that can be converted into a fabulous home office fit for a professional, but in most cases we have only a small corner of the living room or family room delegated for use as an office space. Creating a cozy corner living room office is a great use of space when you do not have a specific room that can be transformed into an office. Take a look at the basic fundamentals for a great living room office without overwhelming the space in equipment or business-related items and furniture.

Technology

Your first priority is your home computer setup, so you will need to decide what works best for your space and technology needs. Although there are hundreds of computer designs and styles, there are really only a few basic types of computers to choose from for the cozy corner living room office. The two main computer styles for home office use are laptop computers and desktop computers.

In cases where you need to be able to pack up your work and take it wherever you go, a laptop is a great choice. It is versatile and functional, and easily fits into a bag or drawer when not in use. When more space is available for a small desk or similar furniture, a desktop computer is great for larger projects or long-term computer needs, such as for a home-based business’ primary computer source.

Lighting

The other key consideration for your cozy corner living room office is lighting, since it plays a big role in your health. Without the right lighting, you could find yourself suffering from headaches, neck pain or vision problems. A spotlight or overhead light is great for this purpose, but a good desk lamp with a bright enough bulb is usually a sufficient solution to the problem. If you are unsure as to what kind of lighting is best, talk to an expert in a home décor store or home improvement retail store for all of your available options based on space, budget, and more.

Seating

An office chair is a comfortable and ergonomic option if there is adequate room for placement in your living room. A small desk chair that tucks under the desk is also a great option, but a padded folded chair that can be folded away out of sight in a closet when not in use is ideal for short-term infrequent use. When more space is available, something more comfortable can be added, based on the type of computer that you plan to use.

Flat Surface

Finally, one of the last things that you will add to the cozy corner living room office is a flat surface for your computer and similar items. If space allows, a small caddy for holding writing utensils is handy, as are a two-drawer filing cabinet for storing home office paperwork. A desk, table, or shelf is a good choice for placement of your desktop or laptop computer, as long as the heat generated will not damage the surface or create an unsafe working condition. Then add a little style above the desk with a vibrant sun metal sculpture or graceful metal cranes artand your office space will seem more inviting than ever.
