There are many different kitchen decors that you can choose from when redecorating the heart of your family's home.  One of the most popular themes for kitchen decor is country kitchen style.  To create this look, there are elements that should be included, as well as, elements that are optional.  Oftentimes, the optional elements of the kitchen decor are the ones that provide the most striking enhancements to the space.

Cabinetry

The cabinets in a country kitchen are a far cry from the modern and contemporary styles that are found in many newer kitchens.  In a country kitchen, the cabinets are typically made of wood and are either painted white, cream or buttery yellow.  Some homeowners opt for the look of a medium tone wood grain for the cabinets instead of a painted finish.  Maple is a very popular choice for kitchen cabinet colors.  Whichever color tone you select, the cabinets should have a traditional feel to them versus the sleek streamlined look of modern cabinets.

Wall Color

Another aspect of a country kitchen that cannot be overlooked is the wall color.  There is nothing bold and funky about a country kitchen decor, so selecting natural, muted tones that coordinate with the cabinetry is a good option.  Some decorators choose to use wallpaper instead of paint on kitchen walls.  This option can be used with small checkered wallpaper designs, as well as, country inspired patterns.  Roosters, chickens and fruit are all popular wallpaper and wall border designs that would easily enhance the look of a country kitchen.  If you are having a difficult time deciding on a wall covering, take a look at the rest of the room's decor or find inspiration from magazines and websites.

Decorations

Decorations are one of the most important aspects of a country kitchen's appeal. Obviously, metal motorcycle art sculptures or sleek and contemporary metal kitchen wall art has no place in this scheme.  Instead, imagine an old farm house with a large fireplace at one end and a long table situated before it.  The necessary utensils and pots and pans are all available, and some are even hanging from wrought iron racks.  You can recreate that old country appeal in your own kitchen by doing similar things.  A hanging rack can be placed over a kitchen island, the tops of the cabinets can show off bright copper pots or colorful glass jars.  Mason jars filled with different types of dried beans are also great, inexpensive accessories that are sure focal points in a country kitchen.  Other ideas include hanging herbs to dry in the window or having a small herb container garden on a kitchen windowsill.  Depending on the theme you select, roosters and chickens can make their appearance in cookie jars, refrigerator magnets and kitchen linens.

A homespun style for a country kitchen relies on making the space warm and inviting. While there are many different ways to enhance the look of a country kitchen, choosing the one that works for your family, your home and your budget is the most important thing.
